Is the pool pump putting out odd noises? You can not put in enough work to keep the water from turning cloudy. Then there is the matter of an electric bill that has gone up with no explanation for it.
Pool owners are wont to come to us at PoolTek Pool Services with such concerns. In over 20 years of doing business in Central Florida, our in-house repair department has come across all manner of trouble a pool can present. When your setup does not seem right, pick up the phone at (407) 553-9429 and let us put your mind at ease.
For the most part pool equipment will not just give up on you; it offers some forewarning. One has only to be aware of what to spot in order to nip a minor thing in the bud before it gets costly. We have put together the ones you should be on the lookout for.
Unusual Noises From the Pump
A well functioning pump has a low, steady hum. If it is any rougher or louder, you would do well to find out why. Some telltale sounds:
- Grinding or screeching, an indication of bearings on the way out
- Rattling from debris or parts that have come loose
- A loud sucking type of noise when the pump is short of water
- The pump will not start but you hear it humming, pointing to a motor problem
- Gurgling, meaning air has made its way into the system
You can count on a noisy pump to not correct itself if you leave it be. And in the heat of Florida a pump that gives out will make for stagnant water in a hurry.
Water That Will Not Stay Clean
You have done your part to balance the chemicals and yet the water is dull, green or cloudy? It could be the equipment. An underperforming filter or a pump not circulating as it should will see to it that your efforts are for naught.
Look for:
- Cloudy water not long after you have treated it
- Return jets with little or no flow
- Debris on the bottom of the pool
- Algae making a quick comeback post-shock
- A filter pressure gauge that is well off the norm
Without good circulation to move and filter the water a pool cannot be healthy.
Leaks on the Equipment Pad
Do not overlook a wet patch by the heater, pump or filter. Worn seals, a housing with a crack or a fitting not tight are common culprits and small leaks have a way of getting bigger.
They are not always plain to see though. Should the water level go down more than evaporation accounts for, there is likely a leak in the system. An uncharacteristic increase in your water bill is a quiet way of telling you so.
Energy Bills on the Rise
When equipment is old or has to strain to get the job done, the electric bill reflects it. A pump that is running longer hours or cycling in an odd fashion is showing its age.
We can have our repair team put an eye on things and be straightforward with you as to whether an upgrade is in order to lower those costs or if a repair will suffice.
The Pool Will Not Heat
Should the heater be taking its time to warm the water or failing to hold a temperature, it is due for some service. Act on the error codes and uneven heating before the weather turns.
Timer and Short Cycling Issues
An electrical or control problem is generally at the root of equipment that is turning on and off at will or disregarding the timer. Better to have this checked to prevent undue wear on other components.
The case for early action
It is cheaper to replace a seal than to deal with the water damage a leak brings about. A pump in distress is one thing, a burnt out one on a hot weekend is quite another. Early intervention is the way to save money.
